ANTHOLOGY

CONCEPT

I consider this my "love letter" to film.

Anthology comes from a deep desire to reconnect with photography as a tangible process. Each image was photographed on film which I developed and then printed on archival digital paper.

The images in this collection are recent, the majority having been photographed within the past 1-2 years. Often my work is rooted in social and political issues; this show is intended to be a bit lighter in nature. These images reflect my often-dystopian point of view interspersed with splashes of color for levity.

Through building a darkroom, developing my film, scanning, and ultimately printing my images, I found myself bonding with the images on a level I have yet to achieve with the standard digital process. Oddly, I feel connected to these images even more than back when I would spend all day in a dark room seeking one perfect print. And while these images aren’t analog in the strictest sense - having been scanned and archivally printed on a large format digital printer - in many regards I consider this project as having afforded me the opportunity to reconnect with the analog process.
